What I’ve been up to

* I’ve been spending a lot of my time at pool. Doing few laps before breakfast has become my daily routine these days.

* I’ve been travelling a lot to up north last several months. I love visiting there. I can’t complain!

* Great dining places: I finally visited Providence for a dinner. And also I recently found an amazing Californian cuisine place. I don’t share the place here because it has become my favorite casual dining place on the weekends. As much as I’m fond of a place like Providence, I’m a big fan of mom and pop dining place with great food!

Blog - Agent Provocateur

I was beyond stoked to see that Agent Provocateur has a blog now. Their lingerie treats being some of my most favorite. I was also stoked to see that she has a sense of humor.

Addiction

Man: Do you think twice a year means I’m addicted?
Me: I don’t think twice a year is an addiction.
Man: But remember there was a year gap between our first and second nights?
Me: Addiction is not only measure by the number, but by emotional consequences. You are a doctor. You know that.
Man: Then I certainly am.

Black and White Weekend

Irina Ionesco is famous for her nude photography of her muse of a daughter Eva, which caused controversy when exhibited in the 1970’s, Irina’s body of work usually consists of women clad in exquisite and lavish clothing and jewelries, posing in a highly provocative manner. I love that heavy black and white silent film quality all her photos have even though the subject matter is very extreme. The quality of the beauty she depicts is dark hence why I also love this editorial ‘Reconciliation’, where Ionesco has shot a man. The effeminate qualities the styling and the way the photographs have been taken have brought out are strangely attractive. I may even prefer this to her photographs of scantily clad women because they have a more subtle depth to them and the theme of sexual objectification is not as literally portrayed. They’re something to gaze out whilst waiting for 5:30pm to come along and for the weekend to begin!

San Francisco Dining: One

A note on Gary Danko upon request.

Several weeks ago, I and D ventured into SF for a weekend and we finally managed to make a visit at Gary Danko on our second night in town. D claimed that he was really not much of a foodie - in the sense that he doesn’t keep in touch with which restaurant has who cooking at it, or hasn’t been to too many revered spots. Gary Danko was our first visit to an SF restaurant that gets a whole lot of hype. Over all, our impression was good. The service was absolutely wonderful and pleasant. The food was all very good, although nothing I ate was so memorable that several weeks later, I am enamored by it.

Since we usually prefer smaller kitchens where we can taste the spirit of the cook in the food, these bigger establishments with what feels like a ton of cooks working together sort of dilutes the impression of the food. We couldn’t see/taste the cook behind the food…But we did learn a few things there. The first and foremost was the importance of plating. Each plate was exquisitely plated and visually appetizing. The dish was plated with the elements of a perfect photograph. And it made a very big difference in the enjoyment of food. I also learned that fruits go well in sauces (although the Vietnamese have also taught me this already before in their mam nem - more on that later). And that a parting gift of a muffin makes customers remember the evening well into the next day and beyond.

They gave us a pineapple muffin in a Gary Danko wrapper. The muffin itself wasn’t particularly memorable either, but the gesture was. May our education in SF fine dining continue…

Bora Bora

Clear transparent water is all around. This place is perfect for rendezvous/honeymoon with some ultimate privacy right here in this recluse island in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean. Over water bungalows above transparent water in white sand beaches - no wonder a lot of people kept coming back every year.
